I am a medical entomologist and parasitologist. I received my B.S. in 1993 and Ph.D. in 1998 in entomology from UC Davis. I was an American Society for Microbiology postdoctoral fellow at the Centers for Disease Control in Fort Collins, CO. I teach courses in microbiology and parasitology at Cal Poly. My research interests include tick-borne zoonoses, host-parasite interactions, and parasite ecology. Recent projects include characterization of the diversity of Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato spirochetes from rodents on the central California coast, investigating the effects of host sex hormones on tick feeding, and the costs associated with parasitism to marine invertebrate intermediate hosts.
